Pam’s Favorite Books of 2019

Hi, friends! It has been a LONG WHILE since my last post, I know. A lot has happened since: my bf visited me here in the Philippines, then we got married! Ya girl got hitched! 😆

Although I’ve been busy with the wedding prep and post-wedding stuff, I’ve been able to squeeze in some reading. And guess what? I’ve been able to surpass my Goodreads Reading Challenge for 2019! Admittedly, though, I sold myself short (with just 35 books as a goal) because I knew it was going to be a busy year for me.

However, I was able to read 56 out of 35 books for 2019!

But which ones are my faves though? 🤔

#10: With The Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo

With The Fire on High’s seventeen-year-old Emoni tries hard to stay sane despite life’s unending lemon-throwing in the forms of school, family, and romance. She’s basically early adulting. This book tugged and gripped my heart in all the right places. Read my full review here: BOOK REVIEW – WITH THE FIRE ON HIGH || I AM LEFT SALIVATING OVER FOOD AND CRYING OVER TEENAGE STRUGGLES

#9: Stay Sexy & Don’t Get Murdered: The Definitive How-To Guide by Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark

I’ve hear of Karen and Georgia from their famous podcast My Favorite Murder. They are equally hilarious, strong, and brilliant women who went to through a lot of shit in their lives AS WOMEN. It was both refreshing and sad to hear about the struggles they faced; mostly because these things are relatable. Word of advice: listen to the audiobook.

#8 Heartstopper (Volume 1) by Alice Oseman

Heartstopper is just *chef’s kiss* so heartwarming and punch-the-wall wholesome, relatable, and adorable! Now, what I love about it is it’s just not all about heart eyes, crushes, and surviving high school. Heartstopper tackles a LOT of issues and struggles like homophobia, coming out, bullying, and eating disorders. It has A+++++ representation! Gay, bi, trans, and POC characters? Add this to your TBR list pronto!

#7 Patron Saints of Nothing by Randy Ribay

Patron Saints of Nothing tackles the issues of PH President Duterte’s war on drugs. It is such a timely, hard-hitting and resonating read. My full review can be read here: BOOK REVIEW: PATRON SAINTS OF NOTHING BY RANDY RIBAY || PLAINTIVE DEPICTION OF PH’S DRUG WAR, POVERTY, & OUTDATED MINDSETS

#6 The Never Tilting World by Rin Chupeco

Badass chaotic goddesses? F/F, POC, and disability rep? Unparalleled romance? Sea dolphins? Cannibals? NEED I SAY MORE? This is my first Rin Chupeco book, and it definitely won’t be the last! #5 Thirteen by Steve Cavanagh

Although the fourth book in the series, Thirteen was easy to follow! Honestly, the short but to-the-point and intriguing blurb was what really got me interested and made me click that Request button fast. There’s an equal amount of action inside and outside the courtroom that made me tear through the pages!

#4 Kings of the Wyld – Nicholas Eames

I initially picked up Kings of the Wyld after reading a review that it’s hilarious AF. I wasn’t disappointed! It has such well-rounded characters, amazing dialogue, and fantastic world-building. #3 Lock Every Door by Riley Sager

If you don’t know yet, I’m a sucker for thriller books. Lock Every Door is one of the most hyped books this year, and it definitely lived up to the hype! This book went to places I didn’t expect it to go. I suggest listening to the audiobook! Check out my brief review here: THRILLER AUDIOBOOKS I’VE READ LATELY || PAM IS A SCRIBD HOE

#2 The Sword of Kaigen by M.L. Wang

*clears throat* THIS BOOK Y’ALL. This book is THE SHIT. Sword of Kaigen broke my heart yet managed to put it back to pieces. It’s a military fantasy book that has amazing world-building and characters! Read my full review: BLOG TOUR + BOOK REVIEW + PLAYLIST: THE SWORD OF KAIGEN BY M.L. WANG || ELEMENTAL POWERS! SAMURAIS! HEARTBREAKING AND UNFORGETTABLE STORY!

#1 Verity by Colleen Hoover

I don’t think I’ll be able to stop screaming about how good this book is. Although categorized as a romance book, it can also pass off as thriller/suspense! This book messed up my mind and made me anxious as heck while reading it. Totally unforgettable! Will-take-this-to-my-grave level of messed up. That’s a wrap! I didn’t expect to have this much faves this year, to be honest. I hope 2020 will bring MORE amazing books and possible favorites. 📚
